July 17, 2019: According to this Guardian article, among those to profit from the opioid crisis are members of the Sackler family, who own the Purdue Pharma company that introduced OxyContin in the 1990s. In turn, they’ve donated money to major institutions worldwide, prompting many to protest those institutions’ relationships with the Sackler family and its donations.
