Quitting smoking is associated with recovery from other addictions

This article, from the NIH, reports that quitting smoking may improve recovery outcomes for people with alcohol or other substance use disorders. Using data from a large national study, researchers found that individuals who stopped smoking had better odds of sustained remission from other addictions over time. The findings suggest that smoking cessation should be treated as an important part of substance use recovery rather than as a separate issue. Overall, the article supports a more integrated approach to addiction treatment that addresses multiple forms of substance use together.
